Chilean M50/60 HVMS Sherman ‘Basic’ Conversion Kit
((IN BOX LOOK))
Product Breakdown
Scale: 1/35th
38 Resin Parts
1 Styrene Rod
1 Photo-Etched Fret (containing 3 PE parts)
1 Aluminum turned 60mm HVMS gun barrel
Cost: 45.00 USD (double check with Greg for current pricing)
In 1983 the Chilean Military placed an order for 65 Israeli surplus M-50 “Super Shermans”. These Shermans were to be armed with the Israeli developed 60mm Hyper-Velocity Medium Support (HVMS) main gun. To increase mobility and automotive reliability the Chilean military replaced the old M50 original engine with a new diesel engine from General Motors, which required a significant modification to the engine deck. Further additions were a large stowage bin akin to the ones on the M51 and an air deflector below the rear overhang. The Chilean military continued to employ their M-50/60s until the early 2000s make this the last operational variant of the Sherman M4 Medium Tank.
This conversion kit can be used with any M4 Sherman donor kit currently on the market today; however it is geared for use with the long hull M4A4s form either TASCA or DRAGON. To that end two rear hull end plats are provided which is nice to be given the option for either one. Also included is the often left out radiator panel, though hard to see once the kit is finished, detail focused builders will appreciate the fact that it is there. The 38 resin parts are molded in light gray resin with crisp details requiring little to no clean up. The majority of the parts are used on the updated engine deck. The Three PE Parts are for the burn guard over the new exhaust pipe. Other hull details are also provided such as the spare two road wheels, the main gun travel lock and the large stowage bin for the rear hull. For the turret a new mantlet and gun tube are also included as are a new set of antenna pots. As a bonus a half-round section is provided for the rear of the mantlet for use with the DEF Models M50 Turret.
Grag has once again done a great job putting this kit together. All the items are included to produce a detailed model of this rear breed of Sherman. Like his previous offering this kit is intended for model builds with an above average skill level.
Please check out my build “HYPER-Sherman” of the M50/60 HVMS using this kit under the Sherman Build Blogs on this forum.
